Summary/Objective
The Housing Coach is responsible for assisting clients to ensure lease compliance and housing stability.
Essential Functions
In conjunction with E&ES staff, the Housing Coach works closely with clients to address housing needs. The Housing Coach is responsible for following up on housing related referrals from property managers, Chicago Housing Authority, and E&ES staff as well as assisting self-referred clients with housing services. The Housing Coach provides transition services; coaches eligible clients to prepare for transitioning from the housing subsidy and provides services that assist 10/1/99 residents with satisfying their Right of Return.
1. Caseload will consist of 10/1/99 residents that have not satisfied their Right of Return, residents that are not lease compliant, and residents that are preparing to transition out of public housing
2. Utilize various outreach methods (in-person, telephone, email/mail correspondence, social media, etc.) to engage in target client services
3. Meet with clients to provide an overview of transition services available, educate them on their housing choices, and on Chicago Housing Authority rules and regulations
4. Attend Chicago Housing Authority/Property Management coordination meetings and reports on lease compliance status of residents
5. Organize and facilitate events for clients that have not satisfied their Right of Return.
6. Coach clients to prepare for transition from subsidy when appropriate
7. Call and visit clients to follow-up on progress with transition.
8. Provide assistance in securing private market housing, budgeting, and locating community resources
9. Develop working relationships with private sector landlords to find housing
10. Log, track, and address lease compliance issues with clients. Determine what services are needed and map out plan to become compliant
11. Make appropriate referrals to Quality of Life Services, Academic Achievement Services, Economic Independence Services or Earning Power Services.
12. Meet with clients to provide an overview of transition services available, educate them on their housing choices, and on Chicago Housing Authority rules and regulations
13. Support 10/1/99 clients that have not satisfied their Right of Return and assist clients with finalizing their permanent housing choice. Make families aware of their Right to Return and discusses opportunities for housing that satisfies Right of Return. Team up with relocation providers, Chicago Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher program, landlords and related service providers to achieve permanent housing choices
14. Understand the details of site-specific requirements and is able to explain requirements to client
15. Offer services and referrals to help families meet eligibility criteria for preferred housing and resolve lease compliance violations.
16. Participate in Multidisciplinary Case Staffings conducted by the Program Managers.
17. Other responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Experience
● Knowledgeable of Chicago Housing Authority rules and regulations and lease compliance requirements.
● Self-motivated and be able to effectively coordinate housing and transition services for clients
● Excellent presentation, communication and computer skills
● Experience working with diverse, at risk, and vulnerable populations
● Understanding of family-centered coaching
● Knowledgeable of the community resources that offer housing and transition services
● Possess a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable automobile
● Work well independently and as a team member
● Communication skills that lend themselves to building effective partnerships with Chicago Housing Authority and related service providers
● Experience related to assisting clients with housing needs.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a field role with a need to perform clerical and administrative duties in a physical office. Role requires extensive amount of mobility.
Hours of Work
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position requires the ability work on evenings and weekends as needed.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Program Manager and works in collaboration with E&ES staff. Will also maintain positive relationships with Chicago Housing Authority staff and partner agencies.
Education
1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited College/University OR related experience.
